“Sounds Like Chaos are an exciting young company who make brilliant work. Not just for a youth theatre not just theatre as social work but brilliant work in its own right for audiences”

-Liz Moreton (Director of Creativity and Social Change, Battersea Arts Centre)

“This group has shaped me into the person I am today and given me so many opportunities to train and do new things that would not be open to someone born and raised in Lewisham. At this highly competitive time being a member of Sounds Like Chaos and the skills gained enhances my future on both a personal and professional level.”

-Company Member

Our collective comprises of Artists aged 12-27 year olds from across South East London. Based at the Albany, we make work that is responsive to our time, creating urgent, accessible, cultural interventions through the lens of our collective. Together we are reimagining the future of our communities through creativity.  We do this by creating new devised performances and by developing new diverse artists and arts leaders, employing, supporting and commissioning the next generation of emerging artists and change makers through a unique co-creation methodology. We put young artists at the centre of how the company works, both creatively and strategically.

We want people working in art to come from all different backgrounds so the things we see, do and remember reflect us all as a people. We believe in our members as exciting artists now and in the future. We nurture their confidence in their ideas and skills. We create theatre, art and cultural projects for social change, through long-term collaboration with them, making work that connects our experiences across age, class, gender and race.  Our devised performances are energetic, raw and fun. We specalise in making a mess on stage, leaving behind a trail of chaos.

SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS was founded in 2009 by Gemma Rowan and Roisin Feeny. Starting as a drop in drama group, Gemma and Roisin reacted to the desires of the young people and over time their unique methodology began to emerge.  With backgrounds in theatre making, facilitating, writing and producing both internationally and locally, they have a rich experience of creating complex participatory arts projects, performances and events that centre young people of all backgrounds.
